This Race to the Top money is really showing how desperate the states are, financing their souls for a chunk of this 4 billion.
I have spoken to some friends from Kansas, and these cuts will directly impact their classrooms. What isn't clear is whether they have made cuts all along, like other states, or if this is their initial round.
More to come? While I think they have a case, I hope some parents are being slapped with a lawsuit as well for not preparing their children for school.
Are we finally going to start talking about the elephant in the room??
Well, nothing real earth shattering here. I think any school staff, student, or parent could tell you the outcomes of this study.
I wonder what is driving SC's huge gains in online learning?
Wow, rewards for healthy eating. Yeah, that will help students make lifetime decisions.
I upgraded to both on one machine each. Before going into the pros and cons of each, I better tell the makeup of each machine I upgraded: Windows 7: A Dell 755 Optiplex. Basic stock, additional media card reader, and extra RAM. Networked. Running XP Service Pack 3

While it does eat away at my soul for me to post an article from Fox News, it is curious that this Board member does commit suicide. The article talks about the selection process for some high schools, but I wonder if there will be more forthcoming.
Really, they have a point... "What I don't understand is, when a child turns 5 and enters kindergarten, all of a sudden people think they will stop drinking plain milk."
I guess I am a little uncertain as to what these 4 bills do to begin 'major' steps to education reform. They all sound a little like what many other states are already doing.
I definitely see a place for virtual high schools, and by virtual, I mean that's the only place a student attends. Again though, I think we need to be very cautious and only target those students who would excel. It will be interesting to see what happens in Georgia.
Hmmm...ya think? Yes, I do agree as educators we often complete repetitive paperwork, and all involved should look into this, but when we are held accountable in our districts, state, and by the Feds, some level of paperwork is necessary.
I agree, to a point, that student achievement should be part of a teacher's evaluation, but, this is going to be tough.
Not sure where I stand on this one. On one hand, just teaching abstinence is a little foolish, as kids will still be sexually active regardless. A little instruction on protection would help.
Slippery slope here. School is probably out of bounds though, from all the cyber law sessions I have sat through. Looks like it happened out of school, and did not lead to any in-school disruption. Be interested to see the outcome.
Time will tell, and I hope this works out for us here in Wake County (Raleigh), although I am very skeptical. I worked in a school that otherwise would have had an 80+% poverty rate. With the busing, it was 60% and much more manageable.
So you like your docks on XP/Vista and Mac OS? Well, as usually, Linux has their own that allows for a large amount of fine-tuning. Gnome Do (http://do.davebsd.com/) is first and foremost a launcher application for Linux.

So what is the solution to these types of things? Honestly, I'm out of ideas...
Continues to happen everywhere. We will definitely reap later what we sow now...
I can answer his question at the end in regards to why Windows is not using VirtualBox, VMWare, or something similar...$$$$. They are pouring money into their virtualization solution, hoping to pull some VM users.
Yeah, move it right into Microsoft computers... Go Linux!
My Gluten Free Facts ( ) recently put up their 2009 Free List of Gluten Free Halloween Candy. This is actually a pretty well designed tool, as they break the list into three different sections.

So often, I could be working on any number of machines. Primarily at work, I use Windows XP, although I will probably upgrade to Windows 7 in the next few weeks. On my Dell Latitude 2100 I dual boot between XP and Ubuntu 9.10 UNR.
